Rebecca Lea – Artistic Director
Rebecca combines her work with Re:Sound with a career as a freelance singer. She has appeared as a soloist in concert and on the radio with Manchester Camerata, Northern Sinfonia, Psappha, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Ensemble 10/10 and the NDR Radio Choir, Hamburg. Rebecca also performs in choir and consort with many of the UK’s leading ensembles including the BBC Singers, Exaudi, The Sixteen, The Choir of the Enlightenment, Cries of London, Britten Sinfonia Voices, Platinum Consort and the NDR Radio Choir in Hamburg.
Recent performances include Purcell’s King Arthur in the Laieszhalle, Hamburg, Poulenc’s La voix humaine at the Purcell Room, Louis Andriessen’s Dances with Ensemble 10/10 in Liverpool, Judith Weir’s The Consolations of Scholarship at The Sage, Gateshead, King Harald’s Saga at the Wigmore Hall, recitals at the Lake District and Chester Summer Music Festivals and Birtwistle’s Meridian at the BBC Proms.
Stage roles include Elle (La voix humaine), Galatea (Acis and Galatea), Cis (Albert Herring), Susanna(Le Nozze di Figaro), The Governess (The Turn of the Screw), Venus (The Judgement of Paris) and Paula in the world premiere of Cheryl Frances Hoad’s Amy’s Last Dive, commissioned as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. With Re:Sound she has appeared in Battles Within and Without, The Mask Behind the Face, Into the Woods, Emily, Mrs Lazarus and The Wedding.
Rebecca gained her BA(Hons) in Modern Languages at The Queen’s College, Oxford. She then studied at RADA and King’s College London before completing postgraduate vocal studies with Distinction at the RNCM.
