Kate Smith Headshot

Kate Smith is a performer and creative producer from the United States. Passionate about inter-disciplinary performance and singing across genres, Kate not only performs classical repertoire, but also cabaret and American folk music. She earned her BA in Film and East Asian Studies at Columbia University and has lived and worked in New York and Beijing. She moved to London in 2014 to pursue a Masters in Voice at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

In addition to working as a video and documentary producer, Kate began producing her own work in 2011 with Lolo and the Midnight Cabaret at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn, New York. Upon moving to Beijing, she began creating immersive music theater experiences exploring the decadence of the Weimar era with Vamps.Vixens.Weimar, and the hybridization of American jazz and traditional Chinese music of 1920s Shanghai with Siren.Seductress.Shanghai. Her largest adventure to date has been Songs from the Labyrinth, in which she staged a selection of classical repertoire, ranging from Gesualdo, to Faure, to Stravinsky, inside a converted Chinese factory, with aerial dance, roving choir, butoh, and more. Kate also performed regularly with her vocal harmony band, The Confectionaires, and her American country music band, The Honky Tonk Angels.

Kate is currently excited to be exploring collaborations with electronic composers to develop classical music in new directions. In addition, she is working on launching her own arts and music education company, Compass World Arts, with its first 5-day world music program in the ancient town of Dali, in Yunnan Province, China. www.CompassWorldArts.comwww.KateSmithMusic.com.
